MONTHLY UPDATE: May 29, 2026

PLAC (Political & Legislative Action Committee)

Time flies when you go on Strike for almost three weeks followed by a hectic return to work. PCC’s historic strike strengthened our community with our colleagues from FFAP and FCE. It also activated many members about the terrible actions and decisions made by most of the PCC Board of Directors. (Kien Truong is the only one who consistently supports and advocates for PCC students and employees.) Lastly, the strike turned our attention to the funding issues in the state of Oregon and the inaction from many of the state’s elected officials. Education and healthcare need to be fully funded as a service for the community.

Here is a list of what PLAC has been working on for the past few months. Our most recent meeting was on May 19.

  • 2 FFAP endorsed candidates won in May’s Primary election. Congratulations to Myrna Muñoz (Oregon Senate District 15) and Tammy Carpenter (Oregon Representative District 27) for winning their primaries! We will now plan and prepare the endorsement process for the November mid-term election. If you are curious about how we made our endorsement decisions, check out the April 27 news story on the PCCFFAP website.
  • The Board Mapping Group has been meeting regularly and we are actively reaching out to the community via neighborhood meetings, community activist groups, other colleges / schools, etc. in search of potential candidates for Zones 2 and 7. We need help with finding candidates for Zone 7 which covers a large geographic area which includes part of Hillsboro, Scappoose, Vernonia and St. Helens. Please see the PCC Board Zone Map to see what areas each Zone includes.
  • Board report cards are almost ready to go. The goal is to publish these before the end of spring term. Tara Murino-Brault did excellent work with the graphics. Thank you, Tara!

Stay tuned for more updates from the Political and Legislative Action Committee. Please contact me at marianne.stupfelwallace@pccffap.org if you have any questions or would like to help with the Board Mapping efforts. Thank you all for being such an active community. The next PLAC meeting will be in June (date TBD), and this committee will continue to meet monthly during the summer.
