Click here to read a summary of the Tentative Agreement
We are excited to share a summary of this historic contract! It is the result of countless hours of organizing and collective action by SO MANY of you, a bargaining team that remained in solidarity across employee classes, and broader community support for our federation.
You may have seen the email from Dr. Bennings announcing a deal. The College also sent a press release, and the Oregonian also ran a story yesterday. We’re glad the administration recognized the importance of paying educators and academic professionals fairly, job security for part time faculty, professional autonomy, shared governance, and all the other things we won. But these critical supports were not handed over – they were fought for and won by you and your coworkers, who, for the first time in PCC history, were able to bring a credible strike threat to the bargaining table.
If there’s one lesson to take away from all of this, it is this: Our labor is our leverage. PCC simply could not function without us. It’s good and healthy (and sometimes fun!) to remind our bosses of that fact!
You may be wondering, what happens next?
Once we have a cleaned-up document, we will share the full text of the tentative agreement. We’ll also hold three information sessions where members can ask questions and hear from the bargaining team about what’s in the tentative agreement. (Details to come)
We will ask members to vote in favor of ratifying the contract within two weeks. In the meantime, we are asking everyone to pivot their energy towards supporting our sibling union, the PCC Federation of Classified Employees, who are still bargaining their own contract and preparing for a possible strike, and who have stood in solidarity with us throughout our campaign.
Thank you for all your hard work and support over the past year. Our effort is part of a larger struggle against the corporatization of higher education, administrative bloat, and deprofessionalization of faculty and academic professionals. We are proud to stand alongside you.
