Re-Opener Update #23: Still No Deal

You probably noticed the College doing a lot of PR around their latest offer. We want to clarify a few things.

  • They are not (yet) willing to offer restorative pay for strike days, but expect us to make up the work we missed, including submitting Winter term grades.
  • They have floated adjusting the Spring term calendar, but they cannot make this change unilaterally. We have the right to demand to bargain this change to our working conditions. The only thing this would accomplish is more disruption for our students.
  • Not paying faculty and APs who are on strike saves the College $6.2M and represents a 5% pay cut, effectively cancelling out their COLA offer.

Our bargaining team made significant movement tonight because we thought a T.A. was within reach. If the College was willing to make us whole for strike days, we could have been back to work tomorrow.

On a more hopeful note, the College did agree to return to dynamic course scheduling beginning in Spring 2026. This is a very welcome development!

Senator Jeff Merkley agrees! PCC workers deserve a fair COLA.

Thanks to all who came out to the rally today! Check out this time lapse video of the enormous crowd!

Mediation will resume on Wednesday but we let the mediator know we are open to exchanging proposals tomorrow as well. We will keep you posted.
