Last Friday your FFAP bargaining team presented two new proposals, and a counter to one of the administration’s proposals. We’ll summarize here, but you can read the full text of all proposals on our issue tracker. The two teams also exchanged issues lists, which summarized the bulk of work we are hoping to accomplish in the next few months. We’ve definitely got our work cut out for us!
- On May 12, Administration proposed the creation of a joint admin-FFAP work group to develop proposals on issues arose out of the Faculty Department Chair (FDC) workgroup, including selection, onboarding, training, duties, and compensation formulas for FDCs. FFAP’s counterproposal would ensure observers would be allowed in workgroup meetings, so that we can carry forward the same degree of transparency and access that we have achieved in bargaining. Administration felt this would be distracting and inefficient. We asked them if they would be open to recording and posting the sessions, and they said they would think about it and send us a counterproposal.
- FFAP presented a proposal to address step placement for CTE and other hard-to-fill positions where the typical PCC starting salary is too low to attract quality candidates. FFAP’s proposal would empower Program Advisory Councils to perform market rate analyses and adjust the hiring salaries of full and part-time faculty in the programs they advise accordingly.
- FFAP Presented a proposal that would require the College to maintain step placement for full- and part-time faculty who are hired into temporary full-time positions. The current practice is to place temporary full time positions at steps 1-3, which results in a pay cut for long-serving part-time faculty members who are hired into these roles.
The administration responded to our May 12 proposal to require that the President’s cabinet include a person with CTE experience, stating simply that they are “not interested in adding this to the contract at this time.” They hinted at a favorable response to our AP leave bank proposal, but said they needed to gather some more data before they provide a counterproposal.
Before wrapping up for the day we agreed to meet for bargaining from 9am-12pm on the following days:
