The Portland Community College Federation of Faculty and Academic Professionals (PCCFFAP) is Local 2277 of the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO. We represent full-time faculty, part-time faculty and academic professionals at Portland Community College.
Our mission
PCCFFAP advocates for excellence in education by improving the quality of life of our members through improving economic status, healthcare, working conditions, and security. We promote these ideals for our members, our students, and our community through political activism, collective bargaining, and member and community engagement.
We exist to represent and organize all members to work together, advance professional interests, improve instruction, and eliminate all forms of discrimination in education.
What we do
- Bargain our contracts. We negotiate the labor agreements that set wages, benefits and working conditions for faculty and academic professionals at PCC. Read our labor agreements.
- Enforce the contract year-round. Through grievances and, when needed, arbitration, we hold the college to its promises, from winning back pay for members to protecting the right to union representation.
- Protect your rights on the job. If a meeting with management could lead to discipline, you have the right to a union representative. Know your rights.
- Organize and take action. In 2026, faculty and academic professionals held the line through the longest round of bargaining we have ever faced, and together we won a fair contract. Read about Strike 2026.
- Support each other. Our Strike Fund and Mutual Aid Fund help members facing hard times, and our Political and Legislative Action Committee works for stable funding for education.
How we’re run
PCCFFAP is run by its members. Members elect an Executive Council, along with Vice Presidents for Grievance and Contract Administration and Lead Stewards who represent full-time faculty, part-time faculty and academic professionals. Federation staff support members and leaders day to day.
Much of our work happens in committees that any member can join, including Solidarity, Political and Legislative Action, Organizing, Finance, the Contract Action Team, Oversight and Bylaws, and Nominations and Elections. See upcoming meetings.
We are governed by our Constitution and Bylaws, and our Oversight and Bylaws Committee publishes an annual review of the Federation’s effectiveness.
Our affiliations
We do this work alongside organized labor in Oregon and across the country, as a local of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and a member of AFT-Oregon, the Northwest Oregon Labor Council and the AFL-CIO.
Membership
Everyone hired as faculty or an academic professional at PCC is covered by our labor agreements. Joining the Federation lets you vote on contracts, elect union leaders and set policy, and use AFT member benefits. Dues are 1.7% of the gross salary from your primary PCC job.
